House' actors coming to Israel? o0

Stars of successful American TV series, not including Hugh Laurie, expected to visit Holy Land as part of Foreign Ministry tourism campaign
The stars of successful American television series "House" are expected to visit Israel as part of a series of projects launched by the Foreign and Tourism ministries in a bid to promote tourism to the Holy Land.

According to information obtained by Ynet, the group of actors – not including the program's lead star Hugh Laurie – will visit several of the country's main tourist attractions.

Sources in the Tourism Ministry recently approached the Foreign Ministry's Division for Cultural and Scientific Affairs in a bid to coordinate the visit.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed to Ynet that talks were being held with the actors, who had expressed an interest in visiting the country, but that a final confirmation for their arrival had yet to be received.

"House," one of the most successful television series in the United States, whose central character is Dr. Gregory House (Laurie), debuted on the FOX network in 2004. Its seventh season is currently being broadcast in the US.

Da bin ich jetzt aber echt mal gespannt ob das stimmt und wer da alles mit kommt...
Irgendwie eigenartig die ganze Sache... Eine Tourismus Kampagnie? In Israel?

Four stars of the FOX TV drama House arrived in Israel this week on a tour designed to show off the best of Israel. The four actors--Lisa Edelstein, Amber Tamblyn, Omar Epps and Jesse Spencer--will Tweet and blog about the trip as they travel, and are expected to share their experiences in media interviews on their return to the United States.

The four actors will celebrate Independence Day in Tel Aviv, then visit the Galilee, the Dead Sea and Masada and complete their tour in Jerusalem. The visit is sponsored by America's Voices for Israel, a joint project of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Israel Ministry of Tourism, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EL AL Israel Airlines.

Launched to critical acclaim in 2004, House is one of the most watched TV dramas in America, and is distributed to 66 countries around the world, including Israel. House has won numerous awards, including nine People's Choice Awards, a Peabody Award, two Golden Globes and four Emmy Awards.

"Our goal is to bring a stream of high-profile celebrities and opinion makers to Israel in the coming months and years," says Haim Gutin, Israel Tourism Commissioner North & South America, "so that they will return home and spread the word not only about what Israel represents but also about its appeal for travelers." 2010 was the best year ever for tourism to Israel.

Worüber im Video gesprochen wird:
They talked a little bit about the trip in general (They are going to be in Jerusalem, Masada..) The guy in the hospital explained a little bit about their visit in the simulation center, and he mentioned what Lisa said about the Siren (In the other video).. He said that they all were in some ceremonies (for the memorial day & independecde day) and that they were in a street party for the Independence Day celebrations in Neve Tzedek on Monday.

Da ist wohl jemand ein klein wenig sarkastisch xD

'House' stars shine in simulated Israeli drama
'House' might be an extremely popular hospital television show, but it is still not clear why three organizations, including the Foreign Ministry, found it necessary to bring its stars to Israel.

Stars from the American TV drama series "House" paid an unusual visit to Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer yesterday. "House" might be an extremely popular hospital television show, but it is still not clear why three organizations, including the Foreign Ministry, found it necessary to bring its stars to Israel. It might have had something to do with the Tourism Ministry's tour de force, when it brought the Chilean coal miners to the country. Whatever the reasons, the foreign minister flew in "House"'s leading personalities, with the minor exception of the series' main player, Dr. Gregory House. That's the equivalent of bringing everyone from Rambo other than Sylvester Stallone.

The visit's creepy edge was derived from its main venue: It was held in the hospital's training simulation center where interns practice performing operations on dolls and robots. We met the center's founder, the charming Dr. Amitai Ziv, a former combat pilot, as was mentioned more than once. All of the introductions and explanations were handled by Orli Rubin, who is in charge of marketing for this center. I ask her why a medical center really needs a marketing director. She replies, smiling, "Don't ask such questions around the boss."

Dr. Ziv points to a life-like doll and explains: "This is a digital doll; she sings, speaks and bleeds; she's a real Israeli."

"I don't feel very good," moans a sick robot, whose words are dubbed by an actor positioned in an adjoining room, as Dr. Ziv plucks away apathetically at the robot's fake flesh.

A surgeon enters the scene, holding a simulated scalpel, and works on the wretched doll's liver. "Get the liver," yells an excited video photographer. I feel as though I'm about to faint. I'm sensitive to such things, but I try to keep my composure. What would it look like, were I to faint over a plastic doll?

"Ravid, buddy, make a hole in the liver," Ziv asks the surgeon. Another group enters this virtual operating theater, a few businessmen from some mysterious investment company. The well-dressed, stiff executive who heads the group is also a former combat pilot. Amitai reminisces about his days training with Ron Arad, the navigator who later disappeared; in this flight of memories, nobody pays attention to the doll's liver.

We head back to the medical center's entrance. The "House" stars are supposed to come. But, alas, there's a crisis: the media is asked, politely, to hide somewhere upstairs. "They don't want journalists around; you know how it is, Hollywood people are sensitive," somebody explains. We trudge upstairs, dejectedly. "This is as close as I'll get to Hollywood," says one medical dietitian. I ask her what to do when you feel tired after eating bread. The question bores her; she asks that I go downstairs with her, and promises an answer on the way. That brings us close to the "House" stars!

"How did you make it down here," the marketing director asks, in a quasi-censorious tone. It looks as though "House" actress Lisa Edelstein has a thing for Dr. Ziv. As he continues with his lecture, she gapes at him, eyes twinkling.

I chatter with one of the surgeons in the simulation center about the doctors strike. "In my opinion, they don't have the courage to go ahead with it," he opines, and adds that "We also do simulations of strikes." Once again, the simulation staff people try to expel the journalists who have infiltrated the room. Why they try is a mystery: This is an event that has no importance, other than media coverage. Now some of the staff perform a replay of a scene from the series' sixth season. The surgeon-performer speaks English with a thick Israeli accent. In the end, the operation is a success: the doll doesn't die. Everyone applauds. Edelstein, the beautiful actress, tries to pull closer to Dr. Ziv, the former combat pilot. He keeps an apathetic demeanor. That's how it is with hospital shows - there's always drama.

‘House’ cast gets taste of Israeli medicine
RAMAT GAN, Israel (JTA) -- On television Lisa Edelstein, a star of the hit Fox show “House,” and her fellow actors work medical miracles every episode. But at an Israeli hospital she stumbled trying her hand at simulated arthroscopic surgery.

“I’m so glad this is not a living person,” she said Wednesday, shifting the controls over a robotic dummy, eyes fixed on a computer screen that revealed her would-be patient’s internal organs. “I think I just mangled its liver.”

Edelstein and three other members of the “House” cast, along with David Shore, the show’s creator, are on a weeklong tour of Israel as part of a public relations effort to bring high-profile Americans on visits here.

Among their stops were two Tel Aviv-area hospitals -- the first at the Israel Center for Medical Simulation at the Sheba Medical Center, the only simulation center of its scope internationally, where medical staff, students, and army medics and physicians from around the world undergo extensive training.

The cast members looked on as medical students re-enacted a particularly dramatic scene from the last season of the show in which a patient who was crushed under a falling building has his leg amputated and is rushed to the operating room.

Among the team of medical students was Yuval Lotan, an avowed fan of the Emmy Award-winning “House,” which stars Hugh Laurie (who was not available to come to Israel as he was touring elsewhere) as a curmudgeonly genius doctor who leads a team of young physicians in investigating mysterious infectious diseases and other ailments at a New Jersey hospital.

“The show is good entertainment, but at medical school we learn what not to do from it," Lotan said. "After all, this is Hollywood we are talking about.”

The visiting cast -- which also included Omar Epps, who plays Dr. Eric Foreman; Jesse Spencer, who plays Dr Robert Chase; and Amber Tamblyn, who will play Dr. Martha Masters in the upcoming seventh season -- also visited the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.

At Wolfson they visited the pediatric cardiology intensive care unit and met with children from the West Bank, Iraq, Africa and Romania, among other places. All of the children were brought to the hospital by an Israel-based humanitarian project called Save a Child's Heart to receive life-saving treatment.

Save a Child’s Heart, also known as SACH, brings children with heart disease from the developing world for cardiac care in Israel while also working to improve cardiac care centers in their native countries, on average saving some 200 children’s lives a year.

"The work that Save a Child's Heart is doing is an important reality check," said Shore, who is Jewish and has two brothers living in Israel. "It's good for the Jews, it's good for Israel, but really it's good for humanity.”

At the hospital, Edelstein played with two young girls from Zanzibar who had undergone surgery recently and spent time trying to connect with a girl from Iraq. Nearby, Tambly gave her sunglasses to a young Palestinian boy from the West Bank.

The trip was organized as part of a combined effort of America’s Voices in Israel, an arm of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, and Israel’s foreign and tourism ministries.

Irwin Katsof, director of America’s Voices in Israel, said the project’s purpose in bringing celebrities on such trips was to make them goodwill ambassadors when they go home.

“We want them to talk to their friends, perhaps do an interview to let people know Israel is more than just wars,” Katsof said. “These people have an impact. The amount of free publicity we get from them going back and speaking on a news show is phenomenal.”

The visit has coincided with Israel’s somber marking of Memorial Day, and the cast members described watching as Israelis came to a halt at the sound of a siren to stand in silence for those killed in the country’s wars.

“It was very emotional,” said Edelstein, who is Jewish and has relatives in Israel, including descendants of a great aunt who was a founder of Kibbutz Dafna on the border with Lebanon.

Memorial Day was followed by the abrupt shift into celebrations for Independence Day.

“You guys know how to party,” said Tamblyn, laughing in an exchange with reporters.

The group had stayed out late the night before exploring Tel Aviv’s vast club scene.

Also on the touring list were the Galilee (stopping off in a spa), Jerusalem and the ancient desert fortress of Masada.

And more actors who play doctors on TV are on their way. Katsof said the next delegation he is bringing is due here next month: members of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast.
