Er nickte und schloss seine Augen wieder. Als er sicher war, dass sie außer Hörweite war, da er durch das alte Holz der Treppe jeden ihrer Schritte nach unten verfolgen konnte, erlaubte er sich, hin und wieder die Schmerzlaute, die er bisher stets unterdrückt hatte.
