Nach einer Weile schlief Chase schließlich ein, die Hand an ihrer Wange.

Nachdem sie erneut alle Informationen geordnet hatte, die sie bisher zu den Krankheiten der beiden kannte, entschied Amy sich nun, über Remy nachzudenken. Sie hatte schon so viel von ihr gehört. Amy stellte sich vor, wie sie mit Chase zusammen gearbeitet und gelebt hatte.

Auch alle anderen waren an diesem Abend bald eingeschlafen. Nur Amy kämpfte spät in der Nacht weiter tapfer gegen den Schlaf an.

House stand um drei Uhr morgens kurz auf und holte sich ein Glas Wasser aus der Küche; anschließend lag er eine Weile wach, ehe er wieder einschlafen konnte.

Amy drehte sich hin und wieder leicht, was ihr sofort wieder mehr Schmerzen im Rücken einbrachte. Irgendwann kehrte schließlich die Helligkeit zurück. Sie atmete tief durch und verdrängte den Gedanken daran, wann sie gelernt hatte, Nächte lang wach zu liegen und aus Angst nicht einzuschlafen.
Stattdessen konzentrierte sie sich darauf, wann und wo sie sich in ihrem Leben sicher gefühlt hatte. Sie dachte an ihr Haus, als sie noch ganz jung waren, ehe ihre Eltern sich trennten. Sie dachte an ihre Schwester und für einen Moment auch an die Grillabende mit Rob hinter der Werkstatt. In letzter Zeit vermittelte ihr natürlich auch Chase sehr viel Sicherheit.
Irgendwann hörte sie, wie eine Zimmertür geöffnet wurde. Es folgten Schritte auf dem Gang. Es konnte sich nur um Anna handeln.
Plötzlich schlich sich noch ein weiterer Ort in ihren Kopf, den sie wohl immer mit Sicherheit verbinden würde. Sie musste sich darum kümmern, wenn es ihr wieder besser ging.

Nach einer Weile wurde Chase wach, der sich etwas verschlafen umsah und Amy dann anlächelte. Als er sie sah, wurde sein Gesicht jedoch ernst. "Hast du überhaupt geschlafen?", fragte er sie leise und strich sanft über ihr blasses Gesicht.
