Band From TV Rocks the Falls
Niagara's Fallsview Casino Holds Two Charity Shows This Weekend

This past weekend saw Bob Guiney (former star of The Bachelor), Greg Grunberg (Heroes), James Denton (Desperate Housewives), Hugh Laurie (House), Jesse Spencer (House), Adrian Pasdar (Heroes), and Scott Grimes (ER, American Dad), collectively known as Band From TV, performing two packed shows at Fallsview Casino’s Avalon Ballroom in support of numerous charities.

And were they ever good.

A Great Show

Obviously these guys are known from their respective television shows. So it’s understandable that one wouldn’t quite know what to expect going into a Band From TV concert. After all, James Denton’s a sexy plumber, right?

Is he ever. But James Denton also happens to be a great guitarist and vocalist. And along with the other very talented band members, he threw everyone for a bit of a loop on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Partway through the show, even Bob Guiney nonchalantly pulled up a stool, looked over the crowd and said, “OK, by show of hands, how many of you thought we were going to suck?”


Met by a lot of laughs and a few honest hands raised, the comment showed the guys don’t take themselves terribly seriously. Guiney, Grunberg and Grimes (try saying that ten times fast) even ran through the audience, plucking giddy women (and men) from their seats to dance with. From the moment they came out on stage, they were interactive…and the audience loved it.
A Couple of Major Highlights

Hugh Laurie on the piano and later dancing on stage (not to mention his awesome blue suede sneakers) was certainly a crowd favourite. But there were definitely some very notable performances worth mentioning.

One was Jesse Spencer on the electric violin. Yes, it was just as cool as it sounds. The violin solo in Baba O’Riley has never sounded quite so good, even to a Who fan. It’s amazing what a well-played violin can do for rock music.

The second was the vocal talent of Scott Grimes. Currently, Grimes provides the rather nasal voice of Steve Smith on American Dad. But he blew the crowd away with his incredible singing and piano playing. From Marc Cohn’s Walking in Memphis to an exciting rendition of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, Grimes was incredible. Youtube him. Seriously.

And talk about your win-win-win situation. Yes, that would be three wins. The crowd loved them; the band themselves clearly had a lot of fun performing. And most importantly, there was the reason everyone was there to begin with; all the proceeds went to charities of the band’s choosing.

And let’s face it: they were 7 pretty damn nice faces to look at.
