Hugh and Fry reunite after 15 years

COMEDY stars Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are to be reunited on TV for the first time in 15 years.
The pair had their own sketch show and starred in TV drama Jeeves and Wooster.

Now they will appear on GOLD to mark the 30 years since they first teamed up.

Stephen, who fronts hit quiz QI, and Hugh - star of US drama House - will look back at their sketches and welcome pals, including Jo Brand and Jack Dee.

Stephen said: "It was a great joy reminiscing. I hope GOLD viewers enjoy watching us grow older and older."

Fry & Laurie Reunited is due to air in the autumn.

Einmalige TV-Reunion von Stephen Fry und Hugh Laurie

Das frühere Comedy-Duo Stephen Fry und Hugh Laurie, berühmt durch zahlreiche gemeinsame Fernsehprojekte - darunter "A Bit of Fry and Laurie", "Blackadder" und "Herr und Meister/Jeeves and Wooster" - ist im Herbst auf dem Sender GOLD wieder gemeinsam zu sehen. Die beiden Multitalente begehen den 30. Geburtstag ihrer kreativen Partnerschaft mit einem TV-Rückblick.

Aufgezeichnet wurde das Treffen (Arbeitstitel: "Fry & Laurie: Re-United"), bei dem die beiden Künstler ihre Freundschaft, ihre Sketche und ihren beruflichen Werdegang seit ihrem Kennenlernen im Jahr 1980 Revue passieren ließen, im Eltham Palace in London.

Für Stephen Fry - seines Zeichens übrigens auch Trauzeuge des späteren "Dr. House" und Taufpate von dessen Kindern - ist die "Wiedervereinigung" mit seinem Partner "eine große Freude". Er hoffe, den Zuschauern werde es gefallen zu sehen, wie "wir immer älter und älter werden".

Dieses Jahr wird das schönste Hugh-Jahr überhaupt.
Erst das Huddy- Seasonfinale, dann kommt die Huddy-Season 7, dann Hugh in einer Doku, vielleicht sogar Hugh mit einem Emmy und im Herbst sogar Hugh and Stephen Reunion.

Digital channel Gold is reuniting Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie on screen for the first time in 15 years
for a documentary about their interlinked careers.

The 90-minute special will air on UKTV-owned Gold this autumn and will look back at the Fry and Laurie's
comedy partnership, which began at Cambridge University 30 years ago when they were introduced to
each other by Emma Thompson.

The pair were part of the Cambridge Footlights revue that won the first-ever Edinburgh Festival Perrier
Award in 1981 and then moved into TV, working together on shows including Saturday Live and Blackadder.

Their BBC sketch show A Bit of Fry & Laurie ran for four series from 1989 and the double act then took
the lead roles in ITV's Jeeves and Wooster.

Since then they have forged separate careers in TV, film, writing and directing. Laurie is now best known
as the star of US medical drama House, while Fry's TV work includes fronting BBC panel show QI and travel
series Stephen Fry in America.

The documentary is being made by independent producer Tiger Aspect. UKTV's Catherine Whelton will
executive produce along with Tiger Aspect's Ricky Kelehar.

Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are to reunite for a TV special to mark the 30th anniversary of their partnership.

The programme, to air on TV channel GOLD this autumn, will see the former double act reminisce about their friendship, careers and sketches.

The former double act met at Cambridge in 1980 and went on to appear together in Jeeves and Wooster, A Bit of Fry and Laurie and the Blackadder series.

Fry said it had been "a great joy" to be reunited with his old comic partner.

"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to retread the 30 years Hugh and I have known each other and worked together," he said.

"I hope GOLD viewers enjoy watching us grow older and older."

The one-off show - which has the working title Fry & Laurie: Re-United - was flilmed at Eltham Palace, an Art Deco home built on the site of a royal residence in south-east London.

It follows earlier GOLD retrospective programmes on Fawlty Towers and Blackadder.

Hugh Laurie is best known now for his role as a cantankerous doctor in House, for which he has won two Golden Globes and two Screen Actors Guild awards.

Fry, meanwhile, is an ubiquitous presence thanks to his radio and TV appearances, best-selling books and wide Twitter following.

We've commissioned a one-off special programme to celebrate 30 years of Fry & Laurie’s relationship, reuniting the pair for the first time in 15 years.
Thirty years ago this autumn, Fry and Laurie met for the first time at Cambridge, introduced by their mutual friend Emma Thompson and comedy history was made.

Ordered by UKTV’s director of entertainment Christian Drobnyk and GOLD channel head Paul Moreton and commissioned by UKTV’s director of commissioning Jane Rogerson, this one-off special show, made by Tiger Aspect reunites the friends who have become two of television’s most popular figures.

Stephen is a national treasure and the epitome of a polymath with his staggering output ranging from acting (Wilde, Kingdom, Blackadder, Bones) to directing (Bright Young Things) to writing (The Liar, Making History) to voicing (the Harry Potter books) to presenting (Stephen Fry in America, Qi, Sorry I haven’t a Clue) and he is now of course Twitterer supreme. Hugh Laurie stars as Gregory House in the global hit TV series House, as well as finding time to fit in Hollywood movies, voiceovers for major cartoons, comedy, music and to write best selling novel The Gun Seller.

Throughout the programme, Stephen and Hugh open up, revealing fascinating insights into their friendship and their careers, and take a look back at their sketches, interspersed with hilarious clips from their work.

Filming revealed some funny insights into the pair; Fry and Laurie have different versions of how they met although they both concede they were introduced by Emma Thompson.

UKTV’s director of commissioning Jane Rogerson says: "Watching Hugh and Stephen reminisce over their 30 year friendship is heart-warming, funny and very special. We're so proud they chose to do it for GOLD”.

GOLD channel head Paul Moreton says: “We are so proud that Stephen and Hugh have chosen to come together on television for the first time in 15 years to create a new show exclusively for GOLD. This fantastic special follows in the footsteps of the hugely successful Fawlty and Blackadder specials which also brought together Britain's comedy royalty to GOLD”.

The pair are great friends and their careers have intertwined frequently over the years from Jeeves and Wooster to Blackadder to their joint comedy showcase, A Bit of Fry and Laurie which ran on BBC1 and BBC2 for four series between 1989 and 1995. They started working together as students in Cambridge at Footlights, and their Footlights May Week Revue – The Cellar Tapes, won the first ever Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 1981. The show was subsequently recorded and transmitted by the BBC in 1982. From there they worked on a number of shows together including Saturday Live and Blackadder and of course A Bit of Fry and Laurie which ran for four series from 1989 – 1995.

Ricky Kelehar, Director of Factual Entertainment at Tiger Aspect Productions says: “We’re delighted to be working on another blue-chip comedy documentary for GOLD following our very successful collaborations on Blackadder: The Whole Rotten Saga and Fawlty Towers Re-Opened. The station claims it is their first on-screen reunion in 15 years; however Laurie did appear in the very first edition of QI seven years ago.

The pair were introduced by mutual friend Emma Thompson and started working together on the Footlights’ revue, The Cellar Tapes, which won the first ever Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 1981.

UKTV’s director of commissioning Jane Rogerson said: ‘Watching Hugh and Stephen reminisce over their 30 year friendship is heart-warming, funny and very special.’

Former comedy double act Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are to reunite for a one-off television show, for the first time in 15 years.

The programme has been commissioned by UKTV’s Gold and will “celebrate 30 years of Fry & Laurie’s relationship”. The show will broadcast in the autumn on the satellite channel and the working title is Fry & Laurie: Re-United.

The show has been filmed and shows the comedians “opening up and revealing fascinating insights into their friendship and their careers,”
