"Es ist drei Uhr morgens, Schatz. Remy vermisst uns gerade sicher nicht. Und Robert ist mit den Kindern im Bett, sie sind sicher früh gegangen und dachten, wir wären noch aus", beruhigte er sie und nahm ihre Hand wieder fester in seine, damit sie seine drücken konnte, wenn die Schmerzen sie übermannten. Sie hatte bereits einen Schmerzperfusor am Bett, er konnte nichts weiter tun und das machte ihn wahnsinnig.

"Das tut es ja auch. Ich hatte Schocksymptomatik und dann sagt er mir, wie schwer du verletzt bist. Nenn mir eine Person, die da nicht aus den Latschen kippt", meinte er und legte ihr zur Beruhigung eine Hand um ihre, die andere auf die Bettdecke, die ihre Beine bedeckte. "Jetzt ist alles wieder gut, versprochen. Ich wünschte, es wäre nicht so. Ich hätte es verdient, hier zu liegen."

"Sag so etwas nicht, Greg. Das ist nicht wahr!", meinte Isobel ehrlich. Plötzlich wurde ihr etwas klar:"Greg es tut mir leid! Es tut mir wirklich so furchtbar leid, aber du musst die Hochzeit verschieben. Entschuldige!"

"Nein, das Wichtigste für mich bist du", gab er zurück und küsste sie vorsichtig auf die Lippen. Als er sich wieder zurücklehnte, zuckte er mit den Schultern. "Du hältst mich für einen Idioten, der ich auch bin. Und ich habe dich so schwer verletzt, dass nicht genau beurteilbar ist, ob du je wieder laufen kannst. Das sind für mich genug Gründe, mich zu hassen. Wie könnte ich erwarten, dass du mich da noch heiraten willst?", fragte er leise.
