Mary war von ihrer Behandlung noch nicht zurück, sodass das Zimmer völlig leer war.

Als Ryan in dem Zimmer ankam und dieses leer vorfand, atmete er zunächst, so tief er konnte durch. Danach lehnte er sich an die Wand. Wäre Mary gestorben, hätte man ihm Bescheid gesagt. Sie war sicher nur bei der Bestrahlung.

Mary lag in diesem Augenblick allein in dem Bestrahlungsraum und hatte die Augen geschlossen. Sie musste sich immer wieder sagen, dass sie das für ihren Bruder tat. Es war ohnehin egal, sie wusste, dass es überhaupt nichts bringen würde, aber immerhin hatte sie dann das Gefühl, ihn nicht völlig im Stich zu lassen.

Eine viertel Stunde später wurde Mary wieder zurückgebracht. Die Schwestern wechselten noch den Sauerstoffschlauch von der Flasche zu dem Anschluss in der Wand und verließen das Zimmer dann wieder.
